Kindergarten (Lyon)
I have lived in Utah since 1994, I'm originally from Washington State and grew up and went to school in a small town called Lacey. I graduated in 1991, tried out several types of work, decided I needed a change and moved to Utah with my uncle and his family for a while. I met and married the love of my life shortly after I moved here and we have been married and living in Utah for 23 years. We took over his father's pest control business in 2001 and have worked together on it since then, which allowed me to work from home and take care of my babies too. We have 2 boys, they bring a lot of joy to our lives, I can't imagine life without them. We love to travel, spend time with our family and friends, swim at the lakes, roast marshmallows and hotdogs over campfires. I love to take pictures, draw, paint, make cards, scrapbook, read, and relax in my free time.
I started volunteering in my oldest son's class rooms in his kindergarten year and found I really enjoyed assisting the children to learn to read. I love it when their struggle is over and they start to understand, the look on their little faces is priceless! I started assisting with my 2nd sons classes when he started kindergarten 5 years later, and when he went to 1st grade full time I was able to start working outside my home again, part time, as a culinary assistant at Ascent Academy. I wanted to be with my kids before and after school, and to be there for all of their vacations, this allowed me to do that. In the meantime, I volunteered to teach art once a month in a wonderful program there called the Great Artist Program(GAP). It taught me how to break down beautiful, famous works of art step by step and teach the kids how to do it. Since I love art, this was a great way to do volunteer hours and enjoy what I was doing. It built friendships with the teachers and the other parents I worked with who volunteered, which I needed since I was working at home doing our family business' office work for all those years and raising my kids. Then I was hired as a first grade aid at Ascent in W. Jordan, I absolutely loved it, it felt like such a relief to do what I love. This last semester, I worked at Eagle Crest Elementary as an aid for 3rd and 4th grade, specifically to help a child who was learning English and make sure they were understanding what was being taught and helping them with their reading, spelling, and pronunciation. The student really progressed and it was wonderful to be a part of that success. I'm looking forward to my 1st year as a 1st grade instructor at Mountainville Academy! My youngest son is coming to Mountainville with me, entering the 4th grade, it will be a new adventure for both of us.
